The Patriot
I have seen "The Patriot" twice in my entire life and I think that it is a wonderful film. The genre of the movie is an action, drama, history and war. The director is Roland Emmerich and it was released on June 28, 2000.
"The Patriot" historical time period was in the 18th century. Mel Gibson plays the role of a farmer who is basically forced to join the American Revolution when the British threatened him and took his son's life. Apparently Benjamin's, (Mel Gibson) goal was to seek revenge and by doing so him and his oldest son, Gabriel (who is played by Heath Ledger) would take on the evil Redcoats.
In my opinion, "The cast of the film were outstanding. Mel Gibson's performance was exceptionally well and there obviously couldn't be anyone better to play the role. Both Mel and Heath's production were extremely believable. In fact, I actually couldn't find a single weak character in the cast, which is pretty impressive. From their earlier movies, "Hamlet" and "10 Things I Hate About You" it was undeniable that this movie would've been bad.
Like any other human being, I have my likes and dislikes. It was pretty cool how Benjamin's younger sons were helping kill the British soldiers. I loved the intensity and the reactions of the soldiers. One of my favorite scenes of them all was when Susan finally spoke to her father. That particular scene included emotion and a sensitive side. However, my dislikes outweighs the likes. For instance, the entire town burning in the church. It's pretty self explanatory as to why I do not like that scene. Or when Thomas and Gabriel died.
The message of this film is kind of complicated in meaning. I guess I could say the moral is, by doing something for the right reason isn't enough. You should only take action when it's personal. Or maybe, there's always a hero's journey in every story. Benjamin Martin is obviously the hero in the movie who goes through a full process of revenge.
This movie is R, a rating which might be perfect for the midage people, just kidding. This movie is probably good for everyone. The only people who wouldn't be interested are the slackers. However, I believe this film is pretty good and entertaining.
